Friday Sketch

Here's a fun sketch made by one of my dearest friend, a very talented scrapper and a great mother, Jana Eubank. I am sure you are very much familiar with her works because we can often see them at TwoPeas, Pink Paislee and My Minds Eye.

Check out her sketch blog http://janaeubanksketch.blogspot.com/

I have used My Minds Eye Quite Contrary - Little Miss Muffet line all available at YSS Online Store with photos of my DD eating ice cream on her own for the first time.

Enjoy! And remember: Get chosen as the Guest Designer for the month! Upload your creation at our USER GALLERY. Each month, we will highlight one customer. Our Design Team will choose one person from the gallery and they will be on the SPOTLIGHT. Each member of the DT will have a chance to 'scraplift' one of your layouts or ideas from the gallery. User will receive a Gift Certificate worth $10.00 to the store for being the Featured Member.

What's new today? The NEW Studio Calico Documentary line.

New Papers:
New Rubons:
New Stamps:
Don't forget you can save 15% on all orders by entering coupon code MAY2010 during checkout!

Tuesday Tip

I am sure that many of us owns or even collects clear and rubber stamps so for my Tuesday Tip, I would like to encourage you to maximize your stamp usage by using them as embellishments or to personalize your pattern paper.

For this layout, I have used MME Quite Contrary Little Miss Muffet paper line. I have used some sentiment stamps on my background paper and stamped randomly. It added a personal touch to the page and gave it a grungy effect.

On this next layout, the leaves were stamped images using Cats Life Press Stamp (available at YSS Store) then cutout individually. Folded in half to add dimension. I have used it as an embellishment to my page.

So bring out those stamps and start using them. It's fun and a cheaper way of personalizing and adding dimension and texture to your page.

A Sketch for Friday!

Today I found a really fun sketch from Skissedilla, a Norwegian sketch site with oodles of talent. I am guessing this is a site that many of you are unfamiliar with, and I couldn't wait to share it with you.

My interpretation uses Crate Paper's Pink Plum collection, available in the YSS Store. The letters are from SEI and are also available.

The photo is of my children walking to the park. My daughter, who is 4, took my son's hand to lead him along and instead steered him right into the street! I used the 4 arrows to indicate the four directions of a compass to further play up the idea of being led in the wrong direction.

My journaling reads: As soon as Milena took your hand, she led you straight into the road, Thankfully, she usually does better!

Don't forget to load your take on the sketch into the YSS gallery for a chance to become next month's featured member!

Have a great weekend!

Flower Border Tutorial

A few weeks ago, I was creating a layout with a really large flower. I decided to cut off some of the petals to make if more size-appropriate for my layout, and I refused to throw away the petals. I just had to find a way to use them. So, for a few weeks, they sat in my scrap drawer. Then one day I pulled them out, and today I am going to show you what I did with them!

1. You will need: flower petals, a 12" x 2" strip of cardstock, some lace or ribbon (the store has several great options. The Prima e-Line flowers work great as well, just fold them in half!) and some kind of DRY adhesive.
2. Fold your cardstock in half lengthwise and apply a strip of adhesive along one side (on the inside).
3. Line up your petals along the adhesive.
4. Apply another layer of adhesive on top of the petals.
5. Close and add your lace or ribbon to decorate.
Now you have a beautiful border ready to add to any layout!

Happy crafting!
Alyssa

April Featured Member

Last month our featured member from the User Gallery was Sunflower_smurf. She has some amazing pages in her gallery and I love her use of patterned paper and bright colors! I love how she can incorporate so many fun elements on her pages but still make the photos pop! Absolutely amazing! Make sure to check out her gallery for some awesome inspiration! Here are few of my favorite pages of hers:

I had a great time going through her gallery trying to decide which layout to scraplift. If I get the chance I hope to do more. Here are the design teams scraplifts from April.

Little Letters

I love little alphabet stickers. There are so many that the Your Scrapbook Stash Store offers that sometimes it is hard for me to choose. (I usually just end up getting all of them, lol!) They come in all sorts of shapes, colors, sizes, and fonts. There are many uses for little alphabet stickers too! Such as:
  • Add a description to your photo
  • Make a list
  • Adding extra words to your title that may not fit with bigger letters
  • A fun way to make your title more interesting by using more than 1 medium
  • Highlight words in your journaling
  • Mini Albums (you knew I would say that, didn't you?)
  • Tags and Cards
  • Name tags and place cards
Here are just a few of my favorites (all found in the YSS Store!) Making Memories, Jenni Bowlin (she has circle and square ones), My Minds Eye (new in the Quite Contrary Line), My Little Shoebox (lots of colors) and Cosmo Cricket!

Use them on your next project today and see how much fun they can be!
