Technique Tuesday!

For the Alphabet box that I created this month, I used a ton of Shimmerz and Maya Mist to create the fun artsy array of colors over the whole box.

I achieved this look by using several techniques...
1. Spritz with one of the mists and let dry completely, then drip the other color on top and let dry. Like you see on letter box "F".
2. Spritz mist, then use a brayer to spread and blend, let dry, then spritz with another color and use the brayer once more. This I did on letter "E".

3. I also spritz a single color, let set for a few minutes, and lifted excess color off with a baby wipe like on letters "Q" and "O".
4. Finally, on some of the drawers I scraped with a credit card leaving lines and streaks within the mists before they dried and others I used a paintbrush to dry-brush across them like you see on box "S".

Mixing and matching your different kinds of paints and mists can give amazing texture and appeal when you just play around how you put them together!

(Maya Mist and Shimmerz can both be found in the YSS store now, as well as the chipboard alphas, Basic Grey Oliver Stickers, and JilliBean Monster Stew papers, corrugated alphas, and stickers that I used on this box. Get over there and get you some, lol!)

Brief shopping interuption...

I know you're all taking advantage of the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales we have this weekend but I wanted to remind everyone about the next Stash to Treasure class coming up.

Starting December 1st, Kinsey Wilson and Lesley Langdon will be posting videos and instructions on how to put together your December Daily.

This is a GREAT way to document your December, Hanukkah or other holiday celebration.  25 days too much for you?  Then make a 12 days of Christmas mini.

The papers and supplies in this kit and class will work for anyone!  We've filled it with lots of other colors besides the traditional red and green!  (Here's a BIG secret.  I'm partial to blue and silver so I made sure there was plenty of those colors in there!)

Want to see some delicious sneaks?

Class begins on December 1st.  Subscribe HERE.

Kits are available for purchase in the YourScrapbookStash.com store.

Don't forget about the Design Team search we have right now.  We're looking for 6 new Stash Girls for 2011!  You can read more about it HERE.

Stash Faves - My Tattered Angels

One of my favourite manufacturers has got to be My Tattered Angels with their amazing collection of glimmer mists, glimmer glam, glimmer glazes, glimmer screens, classic chipboards and clear stamps. And I am so happy to see that Your Scrapbook Stash is bringing in lots of Tattered Angels products.

There's so much you can do with Tattered Angels. Aside from using the mists, glams and glazes on your 12x12 layouts and cards, did you know that these products work just as well on wood? Here's an altered frame I created for My Tattered Angels:

I stamped the wooden frame with Tattered Angels clear stamps, heat embossed the image, then misted over it with shades of green, olive, yellow and orange. The embossed image resists the mists beautifully. I also used glimmer mists on the die cuts of the bird and the bird cage. I love how the mists catch the sunlight and glimmer so prettily. The bird and bird cage are die cut from Tim Holtz grunge paper using Tim Holtz Sizzix dies. Both these products are also available from YSS.

So what are you waiting for? I know I'll be doing lots of shopping at YSS. Oh, and did I mention that for the month of November, you get 20% off your entire purchase when you use the coupon code NOVEMBER20?

Happy Shopping!

The Rest of the Progressive Layouts!

Ready for some more progressive layouts?  I have more to share today!

This one, I (Alyssa) started, and sent to Heidi Kelley to finish.  We both have young boys, and decided to create a layout about our feelings about parenting boys. The journaling is in progress still, but it will be attached to the back.

I created this:

And Heidi finished it this way:

So very cool!  I just love seeing how she took my ideas and developed them further.

Next up. Erica started this layout, and sent it to Valerie, who finished it.  Unfortunately, we don't have a photo of the started project, but here it the project they completed together:

Isn't that just rocking, what they did with that banner?  And the colors are amazing!

Ok, one more to show you.

This one was started by Valerie and sent to Erica.  Here is what Valerie created:

And here is how Erica completed the project!
What a fun layout!  I love all the waves and curves!

Thanks for joining us through this progressive journey!  Make sure to load your progressive layouts into the gallery so we can see them!

Technique Tuesday

Have you seen the Tim Holtz embossing folders by Sizzix? The texture on these are fantastic.

I ran a white 4x6 cardstock through the Regal Flourish folder, using my Big Shot.

You can use the embossed paper as is. Or you can lightly swipe ink over the raised embossed surfaces to add colour and more emphasis. Here I used Rangers distress ink in Spun Sugar, a light pink.

And this is what the embossed paper looks like on my card:

I used Basic Grey's new Curio collection on this card.
A close-up:

YSS has several Sizzix embossing folders in stock now. Really fun Christmas ones too, which are perfect for the season. Basic Grey's Curio collection is also available, as are the Rangers distress inks I used on my card.

Have fun playing with your embossing folders. :)

A quick Maya mist stamping technique!!

I just love any technique that's quick and easy and that's exactly what this technique is!! I was using a piece of cardstock as my base piece for a layout and I wanted to add a little color and interest. I first tried a little mist sprayed from the bottle, but it just didn't give the right effect I wanted, so I turned the piece of cardstock over and thought about painting on it - but I HATE waiting for the paint to dry! I looked around my paint tools and I saw a piece of bubble wrap that I had used on a previous layout and wondered how it would work if I used my Maya mist on it to stamp? Well, let me tell you it worked like a charm and was dry instantly!! And no mess at all either!! Here's what I did!

First I spritzed the bubble wrap with tangerine Maya mist

Then I simply stamped the middle of the cardstock with it!
And here's the layout I made using the cardstock!
That's our pumpkin we carved this year...LOL!! I used the Cosmo Cricket Matilda line to make this - all of which can be found in the YSS store, as well as Maya mists! And don't forget that you can use the coupon code NOVEMBER2010 to receive 20% off of your entire order in the store!! Have fun creating!!

Check this out!

The fabulous DT gals did something really fun and unusual this month!  We did progressive layouts!  What does that mean?  Well, it's a concept that Heidi Kelley and I (Alyssa) can up with nearly a year ago.  We were joking about a layout Heidi was stuck on, and she remarked that she should just send it to me to finish.  The idea stuck, and we completed out first progressive layout soon after.

The basic idea is that one person starts a layout, and sends it off.  Then the partner finishes it.  It's so much fun to see the end results!  Today, I want to show you a few of the layouts the girls created, and next week I will show you the rest.

The first one I have to share today was started by April and finished by LG. This is what April created:
And this is how LG finished it:

How totally cute and fun is that??  :)  April send LG a gorgeous framework, and LG's materful touches brought the whole thing together beautifully.  I love how LG choose to use two photos and how she worked with the gorgeous vine April chose.  The pair used a combination of BasicGrey, Jenni Bowlin, and Making Memories, available in the store!

Next up, Sue sent a layout to April to finish.  This is what Susan sent:
And this is how April finished it:
So many gorgeous details in this layout.  Sue chose a great color palette, and a clean design, and April added complimentary colors and completed the layout perfectly- in her unique style.  So beautiful!  These two ladies used October Afternoon, Hambly, Maya Road, and AC Thickers, all in the store!

Finally (for today), this is a layout started by LG and completed by Sue. This is what LG created:

And this is how Sue completed it!
Wow, so many stunning details in this layout.  I just love all the feminine touches and the layers that both Sue and LG masterfully created.

Next week I have 3 more progressive projects to show you!  What do you think?  Gonna give this a try at your next crop, or with a friend?  Be sure to post your layouts in our gallery and let us know how we inspired you.

As always, everything you need is in the YSS store.  The November coupon code is NOVEMBER2010, and using it gets you 20% off of everything in the store!  Head over there right now... and don't forget to check out the pre-orders!  Lots of great stuff is on it's way in.
