Stash to Treasure Kit update.....

We are getting ready to list our December kit in the store.  I know everyone is excited and asking a LOT of questions about this one.

This will be a December Daily album.  You will have the chance to purchase your kit beginning November 1st in the shop.  Classes will begin on December 1st and we have TWO teachers for you next month.  2 teachers means twice the inspiration and techniques.  Each has their very own style and there will be some extras that you can only get with the subscription.

Downloadable files to be exact!

The best thing about Stash to Treasure is that you have the freedom to purchase the kits or use your own 'stash'.  Of course, we'd love for you to purchase the kits but we know some of you have an extensive 'stash' so you are free to follow along.

Kit prices will be posted in the store on November 1st.
Subscriptions are $5.00

      {I stole this image from Kinsey because she took a MUCH better photo of the kit than I did!}

You need to purchase a subscription to get the video and extra content from the teachers.  Kits contain color photos of the projects and basic instructions on how to complete them.

Kinsey and Lesley are both giving away some subscriptions so you may want to stalk their blogs!

Stash Faves - Basic Grey Curio

My Stash Fave this week is the fabulous Curio collection from Basic Grey.

I love the nature theme of this collection with the pretty birds and flowers, in country hues of petal pinks, pastel blue and soft browns. Those chipboards and other embellishments look like must-haves too.

The Curio collection is available from YSS on pre-order now. I've ordered mine. :)

Creating dimensional embellishments

I love dimension on my projects and a simple way to create this is by using accordion flowers. Make them out of a strip of patterned paper, layer other elements on top, and you're ready to go.

Here's the 3D embellishment I created using Webster's Pages papers:

To make the accordion flower, first cut a strip of patterned paper measuring 12"x2". Punch a decorative border along one side.

Accordion fold the strip. If your decorative edge has a defined pattern, fold your strip according to the pattern. It'll make for a more pleasing design.

Glue the two ends of the accordion strip together, flatten it and attach the accordion flower to a piece of circle cardstock.

Gather up different elements you want to add to your embellishment. For this example I punched out a 2" circle scallop, cut out the musical score image, and created a little butterfly, all from the coordinating Webster's Pages patterned papers.

Layer the different elements on top of the accordion flower:

And that's it. Here's my completed dimensional embellishment on an altered jar that's all ready for Christmas candy. :)

Have fun making your own three-dimensional embellishments!

Punky Sprouts

I just want to take a minute to tell you about this company.

Everyone is trying to go GREEN and this company is no exception. All of their albums contain recycled material.  They are a mix of cardboard, chipboard, acrylic and canvas.

If you like layers and distressing - making a mess - these albums are for you!

You can pretty much do anything with these.  The best part is, if you have a Bind It All, you can add pages in.  Mix and match the albums to make your own combinations!

Want to see some examples?

Check out Alyssa's kit using the Junk in my Punk album with Basic Grey's Wander collection.  This is also the Stash to Treasure kit this month!

Heidi used some of the Punky Sprouts canvas pieces to create this adorable owl!

Punky Sprouts also boasts an amazing Design Team of their own!  Check out what Suzy West did with the Lil Blooms!

Check out what they have to offer!

Going Shabby Chic with Maya Mists!!

I love using chipboard because there are so many ways you can decorate it for your projects. I was trying to achieve a shabby chic look for some chipboard album pieces by Maya Road and I came up with this method.

For the supplies you'll need: chipboard pieces (the thicker the better - I used a Maya Road album); gesso; Tim Holtz clear rock candy crackle paint; mist (I used Maya mist in turquoise); paintbrush.
Paint all the pieces with a light coat of gesso and let it dry - this doesn't take long at all - maybe five minutes. It doesn't have to be covered perfectly - just try to get it even.
Next apply the clear crackle paint thickly all over the pieces and let dry completely. This will take a while - maybe 30 minutes - or you can use your heat gun to speed things up.
This is what it should look like after it's dry.
Next spray lightly with your mist.

Then take a paper towel and rub it all over your piece until it's covered to your liking.

This is how mine turned out...
And this is what it looks like after I decorated it.
You can find Maya mists in the yourscrapbookstash.com store in many different colors, so go have fun getting shabby!
