Organza Flower Tutorial by Chris Penaflor

HAPPY NATIONAL SCRAPBOOK DAY !!!
Organza Flower Tutorial Photos and tutorial written by Christine Penaflor
I would like to give credit to Tresa Edmunds for the great instructions and inspiration for creating these flowers.
Supplies:
  • Cuttlebug Die Cutting Machine
  • Sizzix die: Flower Layers
  • Organza fabric
  • Candle
  • Rhinestone brad

1. Begin with some cream organza (I purchased mine at Joann's). I simply cut them using the Sizzix Flower Layers die in my Cuttlebug. You can cut as many as four layers of organza at a time with this particular die (see photo 1). Using scissors, clip between each petal section about 1/2" to define the petals and to allow more curling once heat is applied to the organza.

2. Using the flame from a candle, gently melt the organza fabric (see photo 2). You must be very careful with this step and not get too close to the flame because the organza is very delicate and can melt into a shrunken ball if it is brought to close to the flame (trust me, I speak from experience! :-D ). I found that there was enough heat from the flame to begin melting the organza when it was about three inches above the flame. You'll have to practice and see what works for you, but please note that it only take a little bit of heat for the fabric to begin curling. I have not tried this, but as an alternative, you can try using a heat gun to achieve the same effect (again, be careful with the amount of heat that you use to curl the petals!).

3. Slowly turn the die cut fabric until all petals have been slightly curved (see photo 3). Next, layer each of the flowers on top of one another until you achieve a pleasing look. Try to not to overlap the petals for a better look.
4. I die cut another small flower from a piece of organza for the center layer, and I useda rhinestone brad from Creating Keepsakes to attach all the layers together (see photo 4).
5. You can also use glue dots to adhere each layer to one another and then embellish witha pearl center (as seen on the project below).
