Prima Canvas Accents

Part 2

Don't you love the look of the Prima Canvas accents ? They look great as is or you can alter them to suit the theme of your LO or album.



For my album, I painted the Fabric Fleur De Lis with a white base.



Next I stamped all over it with a sentiment stamp.



For the flower, I did the same thing and painted frist with white and then with a mixture of yellow and orange on the petals and green and yellow for the steam. You can add more texture by stamping on the painted flower with a sentiment stamp.



Once dried, both accents are ready to be used in the album. Below are the samples of my albums pages that made use of the accent.

Prima canvas album - the clear pages

Now that we have the canvas pages covered, lets move on to the clear plastic pages. instead of just placing my completed page into the plastic sleeves, I decided to stamp on them with Staz-on.



You can pick any stamp that will coordinate with the page you intend to use in the sleeve. In my case I used a swirl stamp.


This page was done with black Stanz-on ink.


This page was done with yellow Stanz-on ink.


Here is my completed page. I like how the stamped swirls float above the page.

Well other than using regular 8X8 pattern papers for your layouts, another lovely option would be using canvas as your background. YSS has a lovely selection of cut canvas in 8X8 size. Here I'll show you what I did with my canvas page for my album.



First pick a stamp for your background. I've used the Small Grid stamp from Prima for my page.



Randomly stamp all over the canvas.



For added texture, glue a few pieces of torn paper to the canvas. Feel free to paint randomly all over the canvas as well.



I've actually painted the edges of my photo with paint as well.



Once everything has dried, assemble the page and glue everything down. I found that glossy accent works quite well but you will need to let everything bond before you move on to the next step. I expect fabric gule will work as well but I don't have any on hand to try with. Let me know what works for you.



And here is the completed page placed inside the stamped plastic sleeve. You could also add a few embellishments on the plastic page for more interest.

Prima Canvas Album - the inside canvas pages

After the last tutorial on the canvas album, it is now time for the details on the inside canvas pages. For each of these canvas pages, I just repeated a basic process. I painted each page with white acrylic paint as a base.

Once that is dry, I painted each page with a mixture of colors to suit the photos I plan to use.









For the blue page, I mixed white and blue paint and painted a thick coat on the canvas so I had a thick layer of paint that formed a circle. When the paint dries, you will notice that paint has form a harden texture.



For this page, I painted only the bottom section. I wanted it to look like grass.



I added flowers and some ribbon for my flower page.



For this particular page, I mod podge pieces of paper onto the canvas before I painted it with white paint. The paper gave the page more texture.





With so many pages, I just couldn't paint all the canvas pages. I was tempted to mist a few and I love the results.



Using the backing of a sticker as a mask, I managed to create a dreamy feel with a mix of blue and sliver mist.



I used the cute little Maya Road chipboards as mask for this page.



The details from the Heidi Swapp mask really come through with the mist.



Other than using arcylic paint, I've used some crackle paint on this canvas page. While the paint was drying, I sprayed the page with some Maya Mist.

Prima Canvas Album - Tutorial

This week, we feature a mini book tutorial by June.  She worked with the Prima Canvas album.  We have ordered more of these as well as the new leather album from Prima so look for these in the store.  You can also make your own canvas album by using the canvas squares we sell in the store.

Part 1

Have you tried Prima's line of canvas goodies designed by Donna Downey ? The cover is all canvas. The inside pages of the album measure about 8x8 inches and include canvas and archival-quality clear sheets.

When I first received my album, I just couldn't wait to start working on it. As I started painting each page, things just fell into place. The textures and effects from the paint was just amazing. I had to keep going until all the 20 pages were completed.

I wanted to create a travel album that conveyed the lush greenery and fun we felt felt when we were in Western Australia. I chose to paint the cover blue to represent the clear blue skies we saw each day. Since the apple trees left a very big impression on us, I made some trees out of some scrap green papers that I had left and sewed some red-ish buttons as apples.



Here are the steps I did to alter the album cover:


Here is the original cover in beige. I removed all the inside pages before I started painting.



I decided to paint the cover white first so the next layer of colors will start out. I did this for all my inside canvas pages as well as I felt the colors stood out better on a white base. It's just my personal preference.



Make sure the base color is completely dried before you paint another layer of color. Next I added a wash of blue paint. I thinned the acrylic paint a little with water as I wanted the some of the white to show through.



I used a mix of yellow and orange to paint on the bright sun at the corner.



For the trees, I tore oval shapes from several green scraps that I had. The trunks were chipboards from Maya Road which I covered with crakle paint and misted with Maya Mist. I cut out 2 semi circles for the hills from scrap paper as well.



For the grass, this greenish ribbon from Making Memories was just sewn onto a piece of cardstock.



You could also hand sew the ribbon if you do not have a sewing machine, or just glue the ribbon directly onto the cover.





The reason I sewed it on was because I wanted to texture of the folded pleets but I wasn't sure how long i need to hold the birron onto the canvas before the glue bonded it to the canvas so I figured that cardstock would stick on to the canvas much faster. That's what I thought anyway. Please share if you have other ways of attaching the ribbon securely to the canvas.



For the apples, I just dropped several red and orange buttons onto the trees and then sewed the button in place.
