I just adore this paper line by Cosmo Cricket. At first you might think it is very intimidating with all the bright colors but once you have it you just can't stop using it.

Tuesday Tip

Making False Pleats

Happy Tuesday everyone! LG here sharing a very quick and easy tip to create pleats on your layout design. I decided to do this kind of pleats because I find it hard doing the actual pleats if you don't own a sewing machine. Here is the sample of the pleats we are trying to achieve:

Since I wasn't able to capture the step-by-step guide from that layout, I made another one using the same process.

Materials:

Several strips of patterned paper preferably from the same paper

Border punch

Distress ink pad and blending tool

Trimmer or scissors

adhesive

Step 1: Cut several strips from one patterned paper and punch one side using your desired border punch.

Step 2: Cut them into small pieces. You can use the punched design as guide when cutting. You can make the same sizes or random sizes. Then distress all the sides of each piece. This will give a shadow illusion to your pleats.

Step 3: Adhere the 1st layer of pieces one by one making sure that there are spaces in between. Feel free to be concise or just paste them in random. Experiment!

Step 4: Adhere the 2nd layer of pieces on top of the 1st layer making sure that you adhere them in between the pieces of the first layer. Curl the edges using your fingers.

Thats it!!! Very easy right?

Stash Faves!

There's a line of fabulous papers and embellishments made by a company called Echo Park. The line is called "a walk in the park" and I absolutely love it!! The colors are so fun and summery and the quality of the papers and sticker sheets are thick and fabulous!!

All of the papers are double-sided and the 12x12 sheets of stickers are full of adorable diecut images!! One of the sticker sheets has 4 alphas on it - what a great buy!!! (All paper images are from the Echo Park facebook site)
One of my favorite papers is the elements cards page. It contains lots of sentiments that are perfect for cardmaking. These are a few of the cards I made with that piece of paper - and many of the other beautiful items that are available with this line!

With all of the new items coming in quickly, we wanted to update you on the Pre-Orders.

We have listed several lines for Pre-order this week. These lines are due to ship within the next 2 weeks. If you would like to place your order now to ensure you receive the new product when it arrives, you can!

A few notes about pre-orders.

* If you only order Pre-Order items, they will ship when we get them.

* If you add in stock items to your pre-order we will offer you the chance to have the in stock items shipped now and the pre-order items shipped at a later date. Or you can hold your entire order.

* If your order is shipped in two parts, we will cover shipping.

We will be updating the Pre-Order list as lines begin shipping. Keep checking back to see what you can pre-order. If you have a question about when a line will be shipping, please send us an email. We have a list of *expected* ship dates. These are subject to change based on the manufacturer.

Use those scraps!!

One of my favorite ways to use my leftover scraps of patterned paper is to make flower embellishments. I really like to make these dahlia flowers because you can use two-sided paper to it's most advantage - and it takes hardly any supplies to make them! All you need are a few items - a piece of double-sided patterned paper, a circle punch (I used a 2" punch but any size will do), a larger circle punch (for the base - or you can just freehand cut this), a large brad or button, and some adhesive. First you need to punch out 8 circles with the smaller circle punch and one with the larger circle punch (I used a 2 1/2" punch for the base circle). Then you fold all of the smaller circles in half, and then in half again so that they are bent into four quarters.

Fold back two of the edges of the smaller circles so that they form a point.
Turn the circle over and fold the edges over so that they meet in the middle.
After completing all eight of your circle petals, take the larger circle and spread adhesive all over it and start laying the folded circles on as shown.
After you've fit all eight of your petals around the base, attach a brad, or button or whatever you'd like to the middle (I've used a large brad). That's it!

And here's the card I made using the flower. I used Echo Park's "walk in the park" patterned paper and sticker letters to make this - which is available in the shop! And remember that there is a sketch challenge going on right now until August 15 - check out all the info here.

Stash Faves

Some of my favourites at Your Scrapbook Stash are the fabulous Tim Holtz dies from Sizzix. I like the Bigz dies because they can cut through most material; from chipboard, to plastic, to felt and even paper. :) And once you've cut out your shape, you can alter them using paints, mists, inks... anything you can lay your hands on.

Crate Paper - you'll see all 3 new lines in stock. Yes, we ordered EXTRA Restoration because we know this one is going to sell out!

Echo Park - Okay, this company is a NEW favorite of ours. These are great papers to work with. They released 3 new lines. 1 Halloween and 2 Christmas. There is a vintage Christmas and a BRIGHT Christmas. True Echo Park Christmas papers.

Fancy Pants - We're excited to announce the return of Fancy Pants to the store! You're going to love the new releases.
Girls Paperie - Toil & Trouble and Tinsel & Twig - Margie did it again! I love this woman!

Glitz Designs - We're also bringing back Glitz Designs! Their 3 new releases are awesome!

Graphic 45 - Yummy new Halloween lines as well as their usual vintage papers in the Steampunk line.

May Arts - How many ribbon junkies do we have here?

Maya Road - This company needs no introduction or cheerleading. They did it again with this release. More fun chipboard pieces, albums, MISTS and ribbon.

October Afternoon - all I have to say is YUM! The school line has been expanded, a camping line and a vintage family line.

Pink Paislee - The new Parisian Anthology line just begs to be inked, misted, distressed. Lots of fun, fun, fun products in this line!

Prima - another company that needs no build up.....

Punky Sprouts - Okay, the name should tell you everything you need to know about them! Their mini albuns are all made in the US from recycled materials. They are mixed media albums in several cool shapes. Canvas, acrylic, chipboard and corrugated pages make up each of these fun albums. You can make some of the cutest banners with them too!

Tim Holtz - look for more inks, dies and other things from Tim Holtz.

Sassafras Lass - I walked into their booth and saw a wall full of the Sass that I love. The fun colors and patterns are back! Indie Girl is already in the store (we placed a reorder at the show). Mix & Mend is our other favorite!

Scrap Happy - more on this company later. You're going to LOVE this stuff!

Studio Calico - Its no secret that I love SC. They went over and above my expectations with this release. Their veneer pieces have the coolest woodgrain look to them. Its enhanced with the mists. I could have packed myself up in their booth and shipped myself back to their warehouse!

Unity stamps - I made some new friends in this booth. I'm looking forward to my first shipment from Unity

Websters - Lots of Websters will be in the store later this year!

We R Memory Keepers - We've had our eye on this company for a while. Look for some fun new paper lines AND the new Sew Easy products.

Playing with alcohol inks

Hello! This is Sue here, sharing a how-to on using alcohol inks.

I picked up a little tin case from the dollar shop and thought I'd alter it using some alcohol inks. Some of us may be a little apprehensive about using alcohol ink for the first time, but it's really simple. And fun. Let's get going on the mini tutorial.

What you need is a couple of alcohol inks and an ink applicator, and of course your alterable:

Drip a couple of drops of alcohol ink onto the applicator. I used three colours here - Pesto, Raisin and Copper. Make sure the different colours aren't overlapping, otherwise you may end up with a brown mess. :)

Now for the fun part. Simply pounce your applicator on your tin. Don't drag it. Cover up your tin as much or as little as you like. It took just a matter of seconds and I had my tin all inked up. I like the marbled, almost batik look the alcohol ink gave the tin.

Now all that's left is for you to decorate the tin to your heart's desire. And here's my final product, my lovely altered tin:
